Nando’s Stamford Street

Fusion Design and Architecture
The restaurant needed to embrace the Nando’s African feel, but with a city twist. Fusion designed some unusual curved ‘S’ shaped seating (fondly known as the ‘caterpillar’) that needed to be manufactured and brought to life, along with complimentary perimeter seating.
The ‘S’ shaped curved seating was upholstered in individual sections of Crest Old English sand leather. Each section was then mounted on powder coated tubular frames. For the perimeter fixed seating we used a bold striped fabric on the backs coordinated with black leather seats. Tapered leather upholstered arms were also used to make the seating look more like a sofa.
An unusual design that provides functional seating with a contemporary edge
“We wanted to create a space that was colourful and fun, retaining the African feel that Nando’s is renowned for, but also put a spin on it that would work within a city environment. We chose a reclaimed oil drum wall, contrasted by high quality finishes and upholstery. Craftwood worked with our ideas and drawings to produce something amazing. The ‘caterpillar’ seats were a particular challenge but Craftwood managed to bring these to life exactly how we had imagined, to the last detail.” Karen Wilson, Fusion
