Insight

The Alderton Swan is a historic inn with Grade II listed status, its interior retaining many period architectural details. It aims is to present a warm and inviting environment for a discerning clientele. With an interior refit in the wings its owners and interior designer were mindful of the heritage and ethos of the establishment.

The Solution

The installation of one of Craftwood’s deep button back banquettes proved ideal in adding an impressive touch to the Alderton Swan’s welcoming environment.

Half diamond button back L-shaped seating in rich, brown leather conveys a sense of heritage and tradition befitting the spirit of the Alderton Swan. Aiding the impression are the banquette’s end arms, which are of polished solid oak, an inset grooved profile adding a simple yet stylish flourish to the whole affair.

With such an historic building there were some interior issues to be navigated – during refurbishment the floor had to be renovated with new supports added before the original, listed flooring was relaid. From Craftwood’s point of view the banquette end panels required careful fitting to cope with the somewhat less than vertical walls. Similarly the L-end and capping had to fit a corner noticeably out of square. Craftwood offers a comprehensive site survey service, invaluable with older buildings of this type.

The Results

Craftwood’s banquette provides an impressive contribution to the Alderton Swan’s reputation as a place for convivial, relaxed dining and socialising, its rich, chocolate leather and stained oak woodwork blending sympathetically with the newly refurbished interior. The button back design exudes the very comfort and charm for which the Alderton Swan is noted. With gourmet cuisine, an impressive events diary and extensive community involvement the Alderton Swan is not your run-of-the-mill pub, and for seating that suits and enhances any interior Craftwood’s bespoke banquettes are not your average seating.

As Gary Miller, one of the Directors of the Alderton Swan, observed: “The challenges of restoring a grade II listed building are immense, and attention to detail is critical in the search for success. Craftwood were excellent in this regard and guided us through all of the stages of the process to create that unique and perfect look for our establishment. A huge thank you the entire team for going the extra mile and bearing with us through the process.
