The Oaksmere, Eye
Location: Eye, Suffolk
Commissioned by: Fraser Duffin, Owner of the Oaksmere Hotel
Challenged with transforming this beautiful yet neglected grade II listed old building, owner Fraser Duffin wanted to re-create the atmosphere of old that so many local people had enjoyed in years gone by.
Key to the project was keeping all of the buildings wonderful original features but dovetailing in contemporary fixtures and fittings to provide a stunning venue for both locals and visitors. The clever interior design in the restaurant uses a wide palette of rich colours, stunning wallpapers and pieces of artwork to inject something special into the area.
The fluted back banquette is upholstered in a mid grey leather that really compliments the rich blue painted walls finishes in the main restaurant. The grey also works well with the granite table tops. Craftwood finished the plinths to tie in with the floor colour. As you can see, the banquette is a great area for a large party to be seated but equally can accommodate a number of smaller parties simply by moving the tables apart.
To one end of the banquette are floor to ceiling windows with doors opening onto a beautiful terrace with views of the newly tended grounds.
The whole area is also set off with the modern, slightly eclectic mix of chairs in varying styles and colours…..a bold lime and rich orange making a real statement. Craftwood assisted the client with the sourcing of the chairs and also the leathers on the project.
A stunning transformation of this beautiful building into a popular bar, fine dining restaurant and boutique hotel. We wish the very best of luck to Fraser and his team!
Fraser Duffin, proprietor of The Oaksmere, commented “Working with Craftwood was excellent from start to finish and they understood exactly the look that I was after. As a newcomer to this industry, Heather at Craftwood helped me enormously with her experience and as well as providing inspiration for the designs that they worked on, also pointed me in the direction of other related suppliers that they had worked with and had confidence in. The banquette is a modern statement piece that merges perfectly into our newly restored Victorian dining room. Thanks to all of you”
