Over the past few years, Craftwood have provided fixed seating into a number of Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) restaurants. In March 2011, Harrison Design approached us with regard to the re-development of GBK’s restaurant at Lakeside, Thurrock. A “full circle of life” for us as we had in fact provided the seating when the restaurant was first built some years ago.
The new interior design really does pack a punch and has injected new life into the venue. The original timber base seating was replaced with a variety of fully upholstered sprung base seating in leather, and now provides GBK guests with an extremely comfortable place to sit and enjoy their meal.
Various bespoke seating styles were used throughout the site and zoning was achieved with a clever use of different colours to give each area a slightly different feel.
Zig-zag fluted back seating, and the beautiful panel parquet type flooring by Havwoods complement each other perfectly as you can see in image below. The timber wall cladding by Havwoods further complements the overall effect. A slightly geometric approach can also be seen with the other seating which employs a square pattern buttoned back.
Booth seating mounted on “honest” mild steel underframes provides yet another area of seating. This area is positioned next to a divider wall with a large window which gives a sight line through the restaurant at the same time as giving a cosy, more intimate feel to the area. A 7 ½ metre long sofa banquette sits on the other side of this wall and provides a more relaxed feel.

As always, Craftwood worked closely with the design company, Harrison Design, to realise the design vision, and full drawings were supplied to Harrison’s for approval prior to manufacture commencing. Richard Nicholson, Senior Designer, commented “Gourmet Burger Kitchen tasked us at Harrison Design to create an interior that is fun, casual and comfortable for the customers at Lakeside Shopping Centre to dine. The mix of fixed furniture styles and details created an eclectic feel throughout, helping that casual atmosphere to flow through the whole space and not act as barriers. The leather upholstery and detail used gave a feel of genuine high quality. Craftwood helped us achieve the high quality we were looking for and the comfort that is always important in any dining establishment”.
