GBK Stoke-on -Trent

REF: 14-1331

The Brief

The £20million transformation of the Potteries Centre, Stoke-on-Trent, saw construction of a dedicated catering and leisure extension aimed squarely at a family market. As Stephen Evans, GBK's development director, explained to local media, the company had been targeting prime shopping centres and the new catering hub at Intu Potteries was a perfect fit for its family oriented brand. With a new location in its sights, as with all GBK restaurants there was to be a strong emphasis on interior design.

The Solution

The distinctive horizontal stitch fluted seating in a dusky orange stands out amid the elegance of GBK Stoke-on-Trent's green glazed tiling, while a glass panelled screen snakes through the centre of the restaurant with Craftwood's semi-circular seating deftly incorporated into its sinuous curves.

The central curved banquette seating with its alternate facing semi-circular booths forms a highly distinctive feature of GBK Stoke-on-Trent.

The window seating, with its horizontal fluted design, is represented in medium and small booths...

…while solid oak borders lend a touch of gravitas to the straight seating run, complementing the back and seat pads furnished in deep green leather.

The restaurant's interior blends a traditional look of glazed tiling and robust oak woodwork - evoking a sense of history - with modern seating standards. With many feeling that the locality was a "little behind" when it came to big brand dining the opening of the final restaurants in the Intu Potteries development, including Gourmet Burger Kitchen, was eagerly awaited, if local press and social media were anything to go by - one lifestyle website going so far as to liken the reaction surrounding GBK's opening to that of a new Game of Thrones series being released! While Craftwood has yet to be commissioned for a throne our commanding position in the field of banquette seating manufacture means we've certainly been raising the standard on behalf of designers at the top of their game.

“Having worked with Craftwood for many years they were our first choice for GBK in Stoke on Trent. All three types of banquette here were bespoke designs for this project, and the central piece was integrated into a piece of joinery with a screen on top. So we knew it was essential for the furniture to be very accurately designed and constructed. Craftwood provided detailed shop drawings for approval and once we had made the amendments they laser cut an MDF template to send to the joinery company. This meant that a very complicated set of components matched perfectly and saved time and mistakes in the long run. It's this kind of eye for detail and high level of finishing, combined with friendly and efficient customer service which means we enjoy working with Craftwood, and look forward to using them for other projects we currently have in the office.”
