Nando’s Gatwick

Gatwick Airport

REF: 9855

The Brief

Located airside in the increasingly busy south terminal at Gatwick Airport, there was a lot of pressure on the interior design here. Nando’s first airport restaurant needed to be something extra special ……….

The Solution

The use of a vibrant fabric specially designed with Harrison for use in Nando’s blends in well with a carefully considered palette of leather colours throughout the venue. The areas are cleverly zoned by using different materials and textures…..something to appeal to the wide range of visitors here. There is even a textured map of the world “engraved” into the claywork render wall…..

A strong mix of sunset coloured orange leather with a horizontal stitch flute detail to the seat backs against the sunny yellow backdrop. The booths here had shared backs with the stitch flute detail rolling over the tops….. The sunny yellow colour, perhaps with wishful thinking of that forthcoming holiday in the sun, is carried over onto another area of booth seating. This time with a striking zig-zag stitch detail sewn into the back panels….… seats overlooking the runway.

Inside the entrance is yet another colour used…here with one of the striking fabrics from Kai….. With an unsual screen detail behind…..a fun, quirky addition.

Adjacent to the yellow “zig zag back” booths is a long straight back to back run of seating in the same Kai fabric in a rich orange colour toning with the leather seats. Enhanced by the striking lampshades, this area forms another focal point! Again with the “World Wall” behind…….

A beautifully designed restaurant which brings together so many unusual elements. A striking venue…….and a very welcome pre-holiday destination for any traveller. Just need to make sure we fly from Gatwick eh??!
