The Royal Park Hotel, Hyde Park

The Royal Park Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel near London’s Hyde Park, comprising three restored mid-19th century townhouses. Retention of the original architecture, complemented by period furniture and walls graced by oil paintings, are its hallmarks. In opening a cocktail bar the Royal Park would have to mix this most modern of trends with the spirit and essence of its Victorian heritage.

The Solution

The new bar, The Hyde, was aptly titled for its proximity to Hyde Park, the name also conjuring a sense of retreat from the hustle and bustle of busy London life.

Promoted for its intimacy, seating had to nestle into some tight spaces, such as the window bay. Sitting well amid the period charm the half-diamond deep button back banquette uses a soft pile velvet in achieving a vintage look.

The selection of the fabric was an involved process with the hotel keen on creating the right appeal. Following a mid-project redesign, chiefly in terms of the colour scheme, and a tight production schedule, the final design and finish of the seating conveys the sense of luxurious Victoriana the hotel owners and interior designer clearly envisaged.

Not all the seating for the project was in the traditional deep back button style. Craftwood produced this L-shaped seating in the same fabric but with a plain back accented by piping detail adding a sense of style.

The Result

The care seen in the restoration of the original building has been ably matched by LR Designs’ interior for the hotel’s latest addition. In the The Hyde the modern trend for cocktail bars and the quintessence of the Victorian townhouse interior have come together to redefine the cocktail bar. Here guests may see the mixers and shakers at their art, sample from a unique selection of drinks, including an extensive wine list, or savour delights prepared by the hotel’s Head Chef, in a setting that justly reflects Royal Park’s Grade II listed status. It’s in this context that working in sympathy with designers and gaining a feel for a project really pays off, and where Craftwood’s experience in providing seating across the hospitality spectrum comes into its own.
